On Saturday 5 December, David Hellemann, Executive Vice President of Nykredit, turns 50 years old.
During his career, he has made difficult decisions about cuts, layoffs and branch closures, and along the way it has given him some nicknames in the media and among employees.
Like Corydon’s Rain Boy and the Budget Biss. As finance manager in DR, his department came to be called Hellemann province – after the war-torn Helmand province in Afghanistan.
According to Djøfbladet, he received the latter from the employees of DR due to the large savings he implemented as director.
– It probably says more about the situation than me, David Hellemann has told the trade magazine.
He has been described as efficient, persistent and ambitious, but at the same time also humorous, down to earth, thoughtful and loyal to the employees.
David Hellemann started his career in the Ministry of Finance when he graduated with a master’s degree in political science from the University of Copenhagen in 1996.
First as a clerk, then he rose through the ranks and ended up as department manager, before in 2007 he was brought to DR as finance manager.
It later became a quick visit as a partner in the consulting firm McKinsey, before he was brought in as head of department at the Ministry of Finance. Here he became a kind of right-hand man for the then Minister of Finance Bjarne Corydon (S).
Since then, the private business pulled in him. This attracted attention when he switched to a job as director of Nordea in 2014.
Here it was two years, after which he became Executive Vice President of the mortgage giant Nykredit with responsibility for operations and finance.
– My career has been super exciting, versatile and unplanned. You can not career plan what I have had the opportunity.
– There has been some diligence, some luck and some coincidence when I have been given different opportunities to work in exciting companies, he has said about his career to Monday Morning.
David Hellemann was born and raised in Aalborg. He is married to Betina Hellemann, and the couple has two daughters.
