The Northern Lights forecast tonight is at 5 or “High” on the 9-point scale. Between 3 and 4 in the morning it will even reach around 7. To be able to see this aurora activity always depends on cloud cover. A cloud in Reykjavík looks like it will be cloudy today, but should hopefully only become clearer tonight.
If you want to catch the northern lights tonight, it’s a good idea to check Northern forecast of the Icelandic Meteorological Office firstly, where both the aurora activity and the cloud cover are described. Aurora’s forecast does the same.
Icelanders have a rather bizarre superstition about the Northern Lights, but the strangest thing is that if a pregnant woman looks at them, her baby will be born cross-eyed.
We can also assure everyone that the Northern Lights do not emit dangerous radiation.
