The perpetrators had been sitting for several hours waiting for the victim before committing the crime, police have previously stated.
The detainees are all from the banned gang Loyal To Familia, Ritzau learns.
The arrests happened during Wednesday. One of the men was arrested in Enner Mark Prison near Horsens. Here he was serving his sentence in another case, the Copenhagen Police informs in a press release.
The detainees are aged from 22 to 41 years. The others were arrested at various locations in the metropolitan area.
Four of the five arrested are registered gang members, police said.
All are presented to a judge on Thursday in the Court in Frederiksberg. Here, the police’s suspicion must be assessed in connection with a prosecutor demanding that the detainees be remanded in custody.
In the press release, Deputy Police Inspector Knud Hvass from the Department of Organized Crime talks about a long and intense investigation in the eight months since the attempted murder and the murder.
– It is therefore with great satisfaction that we have now been able to make these arrests. We have not finished the investigation at all, and I expect that there will be more arrests in the cases, he says.
The five are not only charged with murder and attempted murder. Police also believe they can prove that in a number of cases they possessed firearms.
All the crimes must have taken place as part of an ongoing conflict, and thus – if they are later prosecuted and found guilty – there is a prospect of a more severe punishment than usual.
After a series of violent and bloody events, Loyal To Familia was provisionally banned by the police in September 2018. Since then, two courts have approved the intervention. First Copenhagen City Court in January and most recently the Eastern High Court in November.
