For the police have not yet succeeded in arresting the 27-year-old defendant, who two weeks ago did not appear at the first court hearing of the case.
This is stated by the prosecutor in the case, Jelena Vestergaard Hansen, and the Copenhagen City Court.
When the case was originally scheduled to begin on December 1, the defendant did not show up. He announced that he had symptoms of corona and was abroad.
The 27-year-old submitted some documentation, but the court did not believe it was enough to prove he was legally due.
Therefore, the prosecutor requested that he be remanded in custody in absentia – that is, without him being present. That request the court chose to follow, and thus the man could be internationally wanted.
– The police will now do everything they can to find him nationally or internationally, so that he can be produced in court and the case can get started, Jelena Hansen said after the ruling on 7 December.
But here a week later, it has still not been possible to find the accused.
It was on the night of July 23 last year that the 27-year-old man, according to the prosecutor, drove at least 108 kilometers per hour over Langebro towards Amager. Here it is otherwise only allowed to drive 50 kilometers per hour.
The road was wet and dark, and on the bridge he hit several cars. In one of the cars sat Officer Magnus Buhl Hansen, who was so seriously injured that he died. After the accident, the accused fled the scene.
However, according to the indictment against the 27-year-old, it was neither the first nor the last time that he violated the traffic law. Therefore, he is charged with a string of offenses in addition to negligent manslaughter.
