- Mortality among Finnish-born people has been over 60 per cent higher during the first six months of the year compared with the same period in the past five years, according to data from Statistics Sweden, which was produced on behalf of Swedish Radio Finland.
- The high mortality can be partly explained by the fact that many of the deceased had underlying diseases when they became infected with covid-19, says state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.
- “There is a dark figure, it does that all the time with this disease,” says Tegnell.
