However, the hearing took place behind closed doors for the sake of the investigation of the case. This is despite the fact that Jacob El-Ali has otherwise spoken to several media.
– It is especially taken into account that there is material in the case that the public does not know, and that one should have the opportunity to hear the accused’s explanation and witnesses’ explanation, the judge said.
Jacob El-Ali would not speak during Friday’s closed court hearing.
“He does not want to answer questions today,” said defense attorney Tenna Dabelsteen.
However, she states that he denies guilt in four out of five charges. He admits to having stayed in the al-Raqqa district in Syria, but denies the other charges.
Jacob El-Ali was arrested and jailed in Turkey on January 7 this year. It happened after an international search. Back in December 2014, he was remanded in custody in absentia at a court hearing on Danish soil to pay homage to terror.
An imprisonment in absentia means he was not present and it can be used to call for a suspect internationally.
On his open Facebook profile, he had uploaded several photos praising Islamic State. Among other things, it was about pictures where he was seen standing in front of a number of severed heads.
Since then, several charges have been filed.
In October 2015, he was charged with promoting terrorist activities by fighting for Islamic State. In addition, according to the indictment, he must have planned a trip to Syria for at least one other person.
In the constitutional hearing on Friday, he was met with further charges.
They are about him being recruited to Islamic State and trying to recruit Enes Ciftci to the organization. 28-year-old Ciftci has already been convicted of being recruited for terrorism and of sending money to IS.
The last charge – which he admits – is that Jacob El-Ali must have stayed in the al-Raqqa district of Syria without permission. Al-Raqqa was the capital of the Islamic State’s self-proclaimed caliphate.
