- The municipality of Jönköping has sent personal data to an unauthorized person, Ekot’s review shows.
- When Jönköping resident Elin requested her information, the municipality returned information about home address, social security number and library visits that belonged to someone else.
- “It is the human factor that has haunted”, says the municipality’s secretary general Tomas Björk.
The municipality of Jönköping thus violated the Data Protection Act in its attempt to comply with it. It is only after a little over a month, when Ekot hears from them, that they become aware of their mistake.
“Residents must be confident that we are constantly working to provide a good service based on the laws, rules and regulations we have to take into account. But again, as I say, unfortunately, in this case we have broken our control. and it is very unfortunate “, says Tomas Björk.
Since 2018, private individuals can turn to authorities and companies and request personal data stored about them with a response time of 30 days.
Ekot’s review of the Data Protection Act has previously shown that a municipality has not returned within the time specified in the Act. Several private individuals also testify about complicated processes for obtaining their personal data.
