Stockholm [Sweden]December 23 (ANI): In the midst of deteriorating relations with China, Sweden has decided to build its own 5G network without the Chinese company Huawei.
The decision to exclude Huwaei was taken in line with the latest opinion polls in Sweden, which demanded the promotion of human rights and democratic reforms in China as the highest political priority.
The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) announced on Friday that they would resume the next generation of telecom auctions next month after an appeals board confirmed a decision in October to ban Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE from their networks for security reasons.
In October, PTS said that it has banned the use of telecommunications equipment from Chinese technology giants Huawei and ZTE from the development of 5G networks in Sweden on the recommendation of the country’s military.
According to Sputnik, the decision is a major licensing process to select companies that will develop Sweden’s 5G network and determine the terms of their services.
According to the press release, four companies were selected – Hi3G Access, Net4Mobility, Telia Sweden and Teracom.
The U.S. intelligence service has accused Huawei of plotting to steal data transmitted through its hardware, and U.S. officials claimed in February last year that they had evidence of Huawei’s ability to steal information in the form of a “backdoor” for law enforcement monitoring. communications, the Asia Times reported.
In August 2018, US President Donald Trump signed a decree preventing US departments from using Huawei and ZTE networking equipment for national security reasons. In July last year, the British government said that the country’s 5G network would also be Huawei-free from January 2021 until the end of 2027.
In response to the Board of Appeal confirming the ban, Beijing’s Ambassador to Stockholm, Gui Congyou, said he still hoped Sweden would provide a “non-discriminatory” business environment for Chinese companies and dismissed Sweden’s security concerns. “We urge the Swedish side to immediately correct this unfounded wrong decision,” Gui said in an interview with the Swedish newspaper Expressen. “We should not talk about democracy, justice and the rule of law, but focus on others instead of ourselves.” In a poll in September and October, 82 percent advocated promoting human rights and democratic reform in China as the top political priority. Only 20 percent said that China should be involved in building Sweden’s 5G infrastructure. (ANI)
