This is perhaps the largest exhibition of his works to date to change until October next year, when Louisiana exhibits the artist’s works at the museum.
But in order for as many works as possible to be included in the exhibition, Louisiana is looking for works made by Jens Adolf Jerichau.
It tells museum inspector at Louisiana Mathias Ussing Seeberg.
– We know that there are a lot of works, but we do not know where they are, he says.
He calls Jerichau a painting myth, which among other things impressed other Danish and international painters at a very young age.
– His life was enormously exciting and intense. He had a very short career before committing suicide in Paris when he was 25, says the museum inspector.
Despite his short life, which ended in 1916, Jerichau still managed to make about 200 works.
– He is in many ways a very central figure in Danish art history, but he is not very well known in the general population.
– We are often not interested in artists’ works at that age, but Jerichau managed to create an original expression, says Mathias Ussing Seeberg.
He therefore encourages Danes to look through their paintings, check the signature and contact the museum if you are in doubt about whether you have a Jerichau hanging.
– He painted in the period we call modernism. These are often wild images filled with bodies. It is almost an updated Renaissance style.
– And then it’s funny that he often painted on the back of the pictures because he lacked canvases, says Mathias Ussing Seeberg about the young painter’s style.
If you find a painting created by Jens Adolf Jerichau, it can be well worth a nice sum of money, says Mathias Ussing Seeberg.
– Jerichau’s prices are rising in the auction market. It is not millions, but there is money to be made, he says.
The Jerichau Exhibition starts until October 2021 in Louisiana and runs until February 2022.
