“We’re gradually getting to the bottom of this. There was indeed a video of the incident,” he said.
Some of the incidents were also captured by surveillance cameras.
The murder took place in the hospital area of Koskela, in the northern part of the Finnish capital, on 4 December. The victim was found a few days after the murder, lying down and taking off his clothes.
Three suspects were arrested on the probable cause of the murder on December 10th.
Investigators at the Helsinki Police Department have previously stated that the victim has been beaten for tens of minutes in various parts of the hospital. “[The act involved] various methods, violence, and humiliating acts determined through police investigation, ”Forss said.
Helsingin Sanomat also said that the grounds for detaining the suspects would be reassessed this week, about a week after one of them asked him to be released from pre-trial detention. As the suspects are minors, other coercive measures, such as travel bans, must also be carefully weighed.
“It is rare for minors to be held for more than two weeks,” Forss told Helsingin Sanomat.
Researchers have not yet determined the motive for the act. Interrogations and other investigative techniques do not provide clues to social media disagreement, jealousy, or other reasons for doing so. It is also not known whether the crime involves substances other than alcohol, due to the time between the act and the arrests.
However, it has been proven that the acts were committed systematically and cooperatively, although according to Forss, some of the suspects played a larger role and others a smaller role in the incident.
“It was mindless and sadistic violence,” he described.
The Helsinki Police Department still asks everyone who knew about the incident to register.
