- For the first time since 2018, Elias Ymer has qualified for a Grand Slam tournament in tennis. Big brother Ymer beat the clearly higher ranked Japanese Taro Daniel in the qualifying final in two straight sets and will now play in the Australian Open which starts on 8 February. The qualifying tournament was played in Doha.
This is also the first time that both Ymer brothers, Elias and little brother Mikael, have qualified for the same Grand Slam tournament.
Elias Ymer, who has had injury problems in recent years, and is currently ranked outside the top 200 in the world, is now also guaranteed just over half a million Swedish kronor as a place in the Australian Open’s first round provides.
