Last year, the state alcohol monopoly retailer Alko sold 92.7 million liters of alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beverages, which is 13 percent more than the 82.1 million liters sold in 2019.
The dramatic spike in the store reversed a decade-long trend, with Alko’s sales gradually declining year after year.
Alko said in a statement that the coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in people buying a lot and staying home in the early stages of the outbreak, as well as the closure of bars and restaurants and other restrictions on movement and travel, contributed to sales growth.
The wine proved particularly popular with customers in 2020, with sales up 15 percent from 2019. The growth was driven in particular by sales of rosé wines, which grew 40 percent from the previous year.
Sales of white wines increased by 17 percent and red wines by 15 percent.
Sales of spirits increased by 10 percent, beers and ciders by 6 percent and non-alcoholic beverages by 7 percent.
