The French state is sued in a unique environmental lawsuit

  • Today, a unique trial begins in France that will decide whether the French government has a sufficiently ambitious climate policy.
  • Four environmental organizations, supported by more than two million French people in a record-breaking petition, have sued the government for failing to meet the climate goals it set itself.
  • A year ago, the Dutch government lost a similar climate trial and was sentenced by the country’s highest court to start pursuing a much more ambitious climate policy.
