Denmark receives only half as many doses of the corona vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech this week.
This is stated by the National Board of Health in a press release on Tuesday evening.
35,100 doses will be delivered, which will be distributed according to population to the country’s five regions.
Greenland and the Faroe Islands each receive one package with 1170 doses. A total of 30 packages will be delivered this week.
The fact that fewer doses are delivered than promised is due to the fact that the factory that produces the vaccines must be rebuilt.
On Friday, Pfizer announced that the factory in Puurs, Belgium, needs to be upgraded so that it can produce more vaccines in the future.
However, this means a short-term decline in delivery. It also hits next week’s deliveries.
This means that priorities must be sharper than before in vaccinations, says director Søren Brostrøm.
– We stick to the order of priority we have already set. We therefore prioritize offering another plug to the citizens in the nursing homes who were vaccinated in weeks 52 and 53, he says in the announcement.
– In addition, there are some citizens who have already booked vaccination time next week, who as far as possible will also be vaccinated.
In addition, we will assess at the beginning of next week whether there will be excess doses for other target groups, it reads.
The decline in deliveries means that there are no more among the staff groups who can get the first plug right now.
The corona vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech is one of only two approved for use with covid-19 in the EU.
The other is a vaccine from American Moderna. However, Denmark will not receive any doses this week.
About three percent of the Danish population has received the first of two stings with one of the two vaccines.
That is about 175,000 people. Nearly 3,000 of them have also received the second and final plug with the vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech.
