BEIJING, January 21 (Xinhua) – China has called on Sweden to immediately correct its erroneous method of excluding Chinese companies from building 5G networks in the European country.
The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency has closed its 5G spectrum auction with additional conditions, which requires that telecom operators do not use equipment manufactured by Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE in 5G network construction.
“Without any evidence, Sweden has excluded Chinese companies from its 5G network design for so-called national security reasons,” Ministry of Trade (MOC) spokesman Gao Feng said at a virtual press conference on Thursday.
“The move violated the fundamental principles of the World Trade Organization and international rules and damaged the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies,” Gao said. “China is strongly opposed to this.”
China urges the Swedish side to immediately correct its erroneous practices, meet with China halfway and jointly find a solution to protect economic and trade cooperation between China and Sweden, Gao said.
“China will take all necessary measures to resolutely protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies,” he added.
