In the US, the authorities have given the green light for several home tests for coronavirus, where you can get an answer to your test in 15-30 minutes.
A new research study from the USA shows that the test compared to pcr test is much less accurate, but if you look at the ability to find people with a lot of virus in the body, it is very accurate.
It shows a study published by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The CDC is the US counterpart to the Statens Serum Institut (SSI).
The home test, which is from the company Abbott, captures 64.2 percent with symptoms of coronavirus, but only 35.8 percent without symptoms.
However, looking at people with a lot of virus in the throat, which is considered to be most contagious, the test was even more effective.
When it comes to people with a lot of virus in the body, the tests have been able to capture 92.6 percent of those infected with symptoms. For people without symptoms, the figure was 78.6 percent.
The experiment was made with 3419 subjects in the United States who have taken both a home test and a pcr test. The test is taken by inoculation through the nose.
The researchers behind the study point out that the home test has its obvious advantages due to a fast result – especially in cases where there is a long waiting time for answers to the more accurate PCR tests.
– People who know that they have a positive test within 15-30 minutes can isolate themselves more quickly, and infection detection can be started earlier and be more effective than if the test result only comes several days later, the researchers write.
The home test in question can be purchased for about $ 25, according to the Washington Post.
To be able to buy the test, you must have a referral from a doctor who assesses that you are at risk of being infected.
