The Border Guard has completed a preliminary investigation into the human trafficking ring, which is alleged to have tried to smuggle migrants from Greece to Finland and other EU countries.
The Border Guard said on Friday that there were 11 suspects in the case, four of whom have not yet been apprehended.
The suspects live mainly in Finland and Greece, including citizens of both countries.
The Gulf Coast Guard first announced the investigation last November. The case was first described as the sale of suspected Finnish passports to a criminal group. The group is expected to arrange transportation for about 10 people from late 2019 and early 2020.
Its aim was both to bring people to Finland illegally and to issue forged passports to people whose asylum applications had been rejected.
Passports range from 1,000 to 2,500 euros
The Border Guard suspects six people in aggravated illegal entry and forgery in an organized criminal group.
Three people are suspected of having bought counterfeit British and Finnish passports for around โฌ 1,000โ2,500. One of these people is suspected of having traveled from Finland to Estonia with a forged passport and of an attempt to travel further to Ireland.
Three Finns are suspected of selling their passports to a criminal group for about 100 euros.
Suspects can be charged with aggravated illegal entry, forgery, and border violations. According to the Border Guard, the test also showed two drug crimes.
The case is now being handed over to prosecutors.
