Olympic medalist tested positive for anabolic steroids - free in court
  • A court in Bolzano in northern Italy has acquitted Alex Schwazer, former Olympic medalist and world champion.
  • He won Olympic gold in Beijing in 2008, but was then suspended for three years after admitting to blood doping. In 2016, he was back and took World Cup gold, but then left a blood sample that contained traces of anabolic steroids and was suspended for eight years.
  • “We have provided overwhelming evidence confirmed by independent experts, which the judge rejected in favor of unwarranted theories,” the international anti-doping organization Wada wrote in a statement on Twitter.
