The outbreak of the coronavirus has led to the closure of the Rauma shipyard
More than 100 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in the yard, and many other plant workers are quarantined.
According to the CEO of Rauma Marine Construction, the docking area will be cleaned and disinfected over the weekend, Jyrki Heinimaa, who pointed out that work in the area could resume no earlier than Monday.
The total number of coronavirus cases at the shipyard rose to 106 on Thursday as 52 new cases were confirmed. About 350 tests were performed in the yard on Thursday.
Testing of other employees continued on Friday, but test results for the last two days were not yet available at noon on Friday.
The situation could lead to a delay in the completion of the shipyard’s Aurora Botnia ferry project, Heinimaa said.
The CEO confirmed that there were delays in the construction of the ship and that there is a risk that work could be suspended altogether.
Heinimaa pointed out that it was impossible to predict how the construction schedule would affect, but the confirmed delivery of the ship would be delayed if the coronavirus situation worsened at the shipyard.

The Aurora Botnia is scheduled to replace the Wasa Express ferry in early May and will continue to carry transport and passenger traffic between the city of Vaasa and Umeå in Sweden.
If delivery is delayed, Wasa Express will continue to operate as before Peter Ståhlberg , CEO of Wasaline Ferry Operator.
