The scammer typically sends a message that the recipient can collect the tax refund by clicking on the link in the text. When a person clicks on the link, they are directed to a website that prompts them to disclose personal information, such as credit card information and social security numbers.
These phishing messages have become so widespread that the Tax Administration has issued Warning on their website.
Last year, Finnish police received thousands of complaints about Microsoft technical support scams. About 200 such scams have already been reported this year.
