At the Eastern High Court, a verdict was handed down on Tuesday, where two men – a Romanian and a Greenlander – were convicted of violence resulting in death against a 43-year-old Polish man who in August 2018 was found in the water at Christmas Møllers Plads on Amager.
40-year-old Hans Lauritz Josefsen has been sentenced by the court to eight years in prison, which is the same as the city court ruling from 2019.
The 32-year-old Romanian Claudiu-Razvan Popa is sentenced to seven years in prison and deportation forever. He will thus receive a milder sentence than in the city court, where he was sentenced to eight years in prison, the Eastern High Court informs in a press release.
It was on the morning of 1 August 2018 that the police moved out to the water that is around the district Christianshavn.
Here, the 43-year-old Pole was found lying unconscious in the water. He had been beaten and had, among other things, had his head banged into the asphalt. In addition, he had been given a belt around his neck and had been pulled out into the water.
An accomplice, however, got him rescued ashore. After that, however, the assault continued.
According to the indictment, the scenario unfolded several times.
The man’s injuries were so extensive that he was pronounced dead at Rigshospitalet at 18.58 on the evening of 1 August.
An actual motive for the assault has not been clarified during the trial.
The man was beaten to death with blows to the head and several tramples and kicks.
