- According to the police, a large number of people who are considered to belong to the leadership of various criminal networks are now in custody – among other things after the police in Sweden via French police gained access to encrypted communication
- But as long as recruitment to the networks continues, it is difficult to stop the serious crime, says National Police Chief Anders Thornberg in an interview with Ekot.
- “There is a very large influx of young people all the time, society has not succeeded in taking the right measures,” says Anders Thornberg.
According to the police, a large number of people who are considered to belong to the leadership of various criminal networks are now in custody – among other things after the police in Sweden via French police gained access to encrypted communication
who in a new way showed who is leading the business.
But if drug trafficking, shootings and bombings are to be reduced, recruitment must come in years, says National Police Chief Anders Thornberg.
– As we incapacitate more and more people, it will not fully help if recruitment to the criminal circles is not interrupted. There is a very large influx of young people all the time, says the National Police Chief.
As Ekot reported is a large number of people who according to the police belong to the leadership of criminal networks deprived of their liberty – in several of the investigations the breakthroughs came when the police gained access to communication from the encrypted app Encrochat – which gave the police new insight into how the networks were governed.
– It is terrible to listen to this, you order a murder much like you order a pizza, and you thought you could speak plain text, says Anders Thornerg.
The police in Stockholm estimate that around 70 people who believe they belong to leaders and organizers in networks that are linked to shootings, bombings and drug trafficking – will be brought to justice for various crimes in the coming time. But there is still a lot of work left, says regional police chief Mats Lรถfving.
– Now we have hit hard on the principals and organizers, there are still criminals at lower levels enablers and performers and it is important for us to continue. But we are talking about a rather gloomy figure – we have about 1500 criminals connected to networks in Stockholm, says Mats Lรถfving.
Then that figure does not sound like 60-70 prosecutions so much?
– It is very large because we have taken principals, and sent signals to all criminals that those you thought were inaccessible they are locked up so it is extremely important.
National Police Chief Anders Thornberg says that it is not enough for people in the networks to be prosecuted and convicted – as long as it is constantly being filled with new young people joining the networks.
– You have to make sure that new young people do not come in and immediately at the first indications you have to be strong. Society has not really managed to set those boundaries and take the right measures, he says.
