While veteran goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist took to the ice this week, he says that it will take months before he makes a decision about his future in the NHL.
Lundqvist, who turns 39 on March 2, published a video on social media on Tuesday that showed him in full uniform blocking shots on target less than two months after a heart operation.
“Going to the rink this week has been very rewarding. My health is obviously my first priority,” Lundqvist tweeted. “It will be months before I can make any decisions regarding my future after more tests / appointments with doctors. One thing I know with 100% certainty is that I still love the game.”
The longtime New York Rangers and Vezina Trophy recipient in 2012 announced on December 17 that he would miss his first season with the Washington Capitals due to a heart problem.
He underwent surgery in early January.
Lundqvist signed a $ 1.5 million one-year contract with Capitals on October 9.
Lundqvist and Rangers divorced after 15 years on September 30 when the team bought out the last season of his seven-year contract of 59.5 million dollars.
He left the Rangers with his name on the top 10 lists in NHL history. He is sixth in wins (459), seventh in saves (23,509), eighth in matches by a goalkeeper (887) and ninth in time on ice (51818 minutes). He is also ranked tied for 16th in shutouts with 64.
Rangers chose the Swedish native in the seventh round of the 2000 NHL draft, and he took over in goal for Rangers during the 2005-06 season.
