Covishield is developed by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India in collaboration with the University of Oxford and the Swedish pharmaceutical industry AstraZeneca.
On Monday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the first dose of Covaxin, India’s native coronavirus vaccine developed by biotechnology company Bharat Biotech and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Shortly after getting the jab, he tweeted: “Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS.” “It is remarkable how our doctors and researchers have worked in a short time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19,” he added.
The second phase of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination unit for age-appropriate populations (people over 60 and people with comorbidities over 45) began on Monday with the Union Ministry of Health urging eligible people to make appointments at each hospital in the country. (ANI)
