From February 27, bus connections between the international airport in Keflavik and Reykjavik were resumed. In January this year, bus transport was suspended due to limited flight schedules to and from Iceland. Connections were renewed by Reykjavík Excursions.
In the carrier’s announcement, CEO Björn Ragnarsson stated that the reason for the reintroduction of transport services was the recent discussion about the importance of public transport in ensuring the continued success of border restrictions.
The Icelandic Transport Authority has published updated guidelines for the provision of transport services, which now include instructions for the transport of already quarantined passengers, as is the case for arriving passengers.
This includes wearing masks covering the mouth and nose throughout the journey, keeping at least 2 meters between people if possible with the two rows behind the bus driver empty, and each bus should only carry passengers arriving on the same flight. The bus is also to be thoroughly disinfected between journeys and adequate ventilation is required.
Björn also stated that the decision to resume bus services was made in collaboration with the authorities and Isavia.
All arriving passengers will now be able to board the airport bus, which will stop at Hafnrfjörður, Garðabær, Kópavogur and the city center. The service is currently only available to arriving passengers, but departing travelers have a wider range of options at their disposal as they are typically not quarantined during the trip.
