In collaboration with private suppliers, the country’s regions have nearly doubled the number of lightning tests that there is capacity to perform per day.
It writes the Althing.
Since February 25, the daily capacity of lightning tests has been 207,000 a day. That’s an 88 percent increase over the previous capacity of 110,000 lightning tests a day.
The regions’ upscaling has taken place in connection with the temporary contracts with the lightning test suppliers Falck and Copenhagen Medical being extended until 30 April.
Thus, Falck will continue to test the Danes in Region Zealand, the Central Jutland Region and the North Jutland Region as a minimum until the end of April, while Copenhagen Medical will be responsible for the lightning test in the Capital Region.
Falck and Copenhagen Medical took over the majority of SOS International’s lightning tasks when the company’s contract was terminated just one week after it came into force in early February.
The temporary agreements therefore originally expired on 30 March. But the contracts have now been extended on the existing terms by one month to ensure more time to get a handle on the upcoming tender.
– We are extending to be sure that we can get the new tender in place and ensure a suitable period for implementation, says Dorte Christensen, Deputy Director of Purchasing & Medical Engineering at Region Midtjylland, who is responsible for the regions’ lightning test contracts, to the Althing.
She points out that the new tender must ensure a high degree of flexibility, whether it is about more and more local permanent test sites, additional tests at outbreaks or tests at designated locations such as a training site, events with larger gatherings and the like.
The capacity to perform 207,000 lightning tests per day must be seen in the light of the fact that in total more than 400,000 daily tests can be performed for the corona. This includes the PCR tests that the regions themselves are responsible for.
According to the Danish Agency for Security of Supply, at the beginning of this week, there were a total of 209 permanent test centers throughout the country. 108 of them offer PCR testing while 101 of them offer lightning testing.
