No further infections have been found with the South African corona variant in Copenhagen’s northwest quarter.
This is stated by the City of Copenhagen in a press release.
On Friday last week, the municipality was able to report that the Danish Agency for Patient Safety had found an outbreak with the South African variant.
The variant is especially feared because it is more contagious than the common form of coronavirus and because it may be more resistant to vaccines.
Following last week’s findings, a massive test effort has been launched in the area. On Thursday, the Danish Agency for Patient Safety was able to tell the municipality that no new infections with the South African variant have been found.
– It is absolutely fantastic that no more infected with the South African variant have been found after the outbreak in Copenhagen’s Northwest quarter. This shows that it is possible to react quickly and efficiently, says Copenhagen’s health and care mayor, Sisse Marie Welling (SF).
– I am so happy, and I would like to say a huge thank you to all the many Copenhageners in the Northwest, who listened to our call to be tested. It’s community spirit on the very big blade, she says.
More than 3,500 people were tested last weekend in one of the pop-up test centers alone, which the Capital Region of Denmark and the City of Copenhagen set up on Frederikssundsvej.
The municipality, together with the Danish Agency for Patient Safety, has also knocked on doors in the affected area several times. Here, attention has been drawn to the outbreak, just as the locals have been encouraged to have a test taken.
The region and the municipality will maintain a pop-up test center in Nørrebrohallen all next week, and in addition there are all the other test centers around the city.
According to the latest statement from the Statens Serum Institut (SSI), a total of 17 cases with the South African variant were found in the period 10 January to 24 February.
The 17 cases have been distributed between all five regions – however, there have been most in the Capital Region.
