The Russian corona vaccine Sputnik is now being examined by the European Medicines Agency for possible use in the EU. If approved, it could possibly be combined with other covid 19 vaccines available in Sweden, but it also needs to be investigated.
The European Medicines Agency has begun examining the Russian covid vaccine Sputnik for use in the EU.
– It is good. Hopefully it can increase the amount of vaccine available, says Matti Sällberg who is a professor and biomedical analyst at Karolinska Institutet.
Matti Sällberg estimates that review work will take at least two months.
If Sputnik passes the review there is also the possibility of combining it with the vaccines that are already used in Sweden today, says Matti Sällberg.
– All different vaccines can be combined. Different studies are now being done, so we will gain knowledge about how the vaccine works together. It would not surprise me if many of them work well together.
After the review of Sputnik has now been initiated, he also looks forward to the EU Medicines Agency taking on corona vaccine from China.
– Yes absolutely. Only they meet the power and safety requirements that you have. Why should they not be approved? I think that would be strange.
