– It is fantastic. We can hardly comprehend it, says Laurits Emanuel, who is one half of the duo.
– It feels a bit like being in love. You are a bit beside yourself, says Jesper Groth, who makes up the other half.
The song “Practice us on each other” is the first song in exclusively Danish that has won the Danish Melody Grand Prix since 2005.
And when the duo is scheduled to represent Denmark in the Netherlands at Eurovision in May, it will also be in Danish. There will be no question of translating the song into English, the duo says.
– We are a Danish band that sings in Danish, and most people in this country have only recently opened their eyes to us, so there is no reason to pollute it, Laurits Emanuel explains.
He thinks it is special to sing his mother tongue in the big competition.
– Representing Denmark in Danish is part of a new story that is being written, where more artists are starting to come back with their national language and show it as postcards from their country.
– We think this is really charming, and we would like to be a part of it, says Laurits Emanuel.
The last time Denmark had a Danish song in Eurovision was in 1997 with Kølig Kajs “The voice in my life”.
What will happen up until May, when the duo will hopefully be on stage at Eurovision, they do not know much about yet.
– One day at a time. We are being torn and torn, but hopefully no more than we can handle. This is what we wanted. The first step will be something with some airline tickets, says Laurits Emanuel.
Last year, Eurovision was canceled due to the corona pandemic, but the organizers behind the show so far insist that it be held this year.
And no matter what, the duo with the Danish victory have achieved something they only dared to dream of.
– We have not been with all sorts of other years like Keld Heick, so this was just a huge, huge experience, says Jesper Groth.
– It’s a time of “what if” and in that way a bit warlike, so we have to take one day at a time and try to have a good time.
