Get an overview of the See and Hear case here:
* In 2014, the novel “Life, the Cursed” was published. It is written by former See and Hear journalist Ken B. Rasmussen.
* In the book, he describes how a silent source fed the weekly magazine with information about celebrities based on their use of credit cards.
* According to the police, the investigation revealed that the hush-hush source, as an employee of Nets ‘subcontractor IBM, had misused colleagues’ passwords to follow the activities of numerous celebrities.
* On an ongoing basis, he passed on information about more than 100 celebrities to See and Hear. The magazine paid him 10,000 kroner a month in black.
* In a confession case in August 2016, Aller Media received a fine of ten million kroner. Former news director Lise Bondesen and former editor-in-chief Kim Bretov were each sentenced to six months probation.
* On November 24, 2016, two former editors-in-chief, two journalists and the silent source himself were convicted. The sentences landed at between four months of conditional imprisonment and one and a half years of unconditional imprisonment.
* On 14 November 2017, it emerged that 21 celebrities – including politician Morten Helveg Petersen (R) and actors Mads Mikkelsen and Casper Christensen – sued Aller Media, two former editors-in-chief and the hush-hush source. They demanded compensation of a total of six million kroner for the illegal surveillance.
* The case of MEP Morten Helveg Petersen was the first to be brought as a result of the summons. The politician demanded compensation of 250,000 kroner in the city court, 125,000 kroner in the high court and 75,000 in the Supreme Court.
* However, he did not receive any compensation in the courts.
* Several celebrities have since dropped their claims for compensation. The rest awaited the decision in the Supreme Court, and their case will be heard by the Copenhagen City Court this week.
