New York [US]March 11 (ANI): India on Wednesday (local time) praised the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) for counter-terrorism and stressed that it will continue to fight other new and emerging threats.
During an open review by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN K Nagaraj Naidu said: “The OSCE was one of the first regional organizations to strongly condemn the terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament in 2001. We believe the OSCE has an important role to play to play in our continued fight against terrorism and other new and emerging threats. “We talked about the eight-point action plan on counter-terrorism proposed by Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on January 11, which called on the Member States to fulfill the obligations set out in the International Counter-Terrorism Instruments,” said the Deputy Permanent Representative. the eight-point counter-terrorism action plan proposed by India’s Foreign Minister on 11 January when he addressed this in the August Council, which also deserves serious consideration by the OSCE. “While noting the ongoing global fight against terrorism and counting during the OSCE response,” We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate the importance of this issue. Recent lone wolf attacks in many parts of Europe show that terrorists have significantly improved their capabilities. We must ensure that our collective determination to fight terrorism is not weakened. “Naidu also congratulated Sweden on taking on the chairmanship of the OSCE,” With the current pandemic placing a serious strain on societies around the world, Sweden will adopt challenging times for the OSCE chairperson. We welcome Sweden’s strong focus on promoting the agenda for women, peace and security during its presidency. We believe that the inclusion and meaningful participation of women is crucial for the successful prevention and alleviation of conflicts and for consolidating peace. We also appreciate Sweden’s strong emphasis on dialogue, inclusion and respect for agreed principles to meet the challenges we face today. My delegation wishes to join all the other members of the Council in order to extend our good wishes to Sweden’s President of the OSCE. “Ann Linde, Sweden’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, is the new OSCE Chairperson and took office in January 2021.
The OSCE, with its 57 participating members from three continents, including countries from the wider neighborhood, who respect the principles of the scope and indivisibility of security, fidelity to shared values and commitment to upholding the norms of behavior, have played an important role in promoting international peace and security. and give its members the opportunity to build a better and more secure future.
The OSCE, as the largest regional security organization, also addresses some of the toughest cross-border threats facing its membership, such as arms proliferation, terrorism, cyber security, migration, environmental damage and drug trafficking.
Despite these challenges, the OSCE has taken new ground in developing effective tools for conflict prevention, peacebuilding, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation to address these risks and security threats. (ANI)
