Vollsmose in Odense has attracted a lot of attention recently, after the district experienced increasing corona infection.
This meant that a major test effort was launched in the district, and on Sunday there is good news about the corona situation in the area.
According to figures from Odense Municipality, three infected people have been found in the past 24 hours, which means that the so-called incidence rate drops to a minimum in three weeks.
The number converts the number of confirmed cases into a fixed population, so that the infection can be compared across the country.
According to the mayor of Odense, Peter Rahbæk Juel (S), there is reason for cautious optimism on top of the declining figures:
– There is no area in Denmark that has been better to be tested in recent weeks, and then there has been a really good job from the authorities, he says about the reason for the decline and continues:
– But it is far from over in Vollsmose. We’re still scratching.
In the last seven days, 50 infected people have been found in the Vollsmose square, which corresponds to 546.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is the lowest incidence since February 20, when it was 535.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Several days between the two, the incidence rate has been close to 1000.
But even though the incidence has fallen, the number is still much higher than in Odense Municipality as a whole. It was calculated on Sunday at 89.6 per 100,000 inhabitants.
However, it must be taken into account that just a few cases of infection will mean large fluctuations in the incidence figure when it is calculated for smaller areas.
Peter Rahbæk Juel says that the number for Vollsmose must be roughly down to the level seen in other parts of the city. Next week, there will be, among other things, four permanent test sites in the district.
– We have also run a mass test “to go” concept, where we are right out the door and test people. We will use it again at some point next week – probably towards the weekend, he says.
However, he believes that there will always be a focus on Vollsmose, which is vulnerable to the corona, as the apartments are close and many people live together in them:
– The effort is very massive right now. I hope that when the number is down to a level with the rest, then we can gear down a bit and free up resources for other things, says Peter Rahbæk Juel.
The highest incidence rate among the country’s municipalities is found in Høje-Taastrup. It was estimated on Sunday at 270.7 per 100,000 inhabitants.
