The Novo Nordisk Foundation is the country’s largest business fund and has a fortune of more than DKK 400 billion.
The foundation has previously rejected that it will make sense with state vaccine production in Denmark, but now opens up that it can be done in collaboration with the private business community.
– We can confirm that we have discussions with the government about the possibilities of establishing a vaccine production in Denmark. We cannot elaborate further on this at present, says Steffen Lüders, Senior Vice President of the Novo Nordisk Foundation to Berlingske.
The Prime Minister wrote on social media last weekend that the government has “established a public-private partnership with our Danish life science sector to seek opportunities to establish production capacity in Denmark”.
The Ministry of Business Affairs now informs in an email to Berlingske that the government is, among other things, having discussions with the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
– We have recently had discussions with the life science industry to get input on what conditions need to be clarified, so there is a good basis for decisions about vaccine production in Denmark. I can say that in this connection, among other things, there is a dialogue with the Novo Nordisk Foundation, says Minister of Trade and Industry Simon Kollerup (S) in an email to Berlingske.
He also tells the newspaper that this week the government has a meeting with the business organizations in the life science area to get their input on how Denmark can get better access to vaccines.
