- Those who have been ill with covid-19 have a higher risk of dying after a surgical procedure after they have been ill. This is shown by an international study in which Umeå University and Norrland University Hospital participate.
- If one waits until seven weeks after recovery from surgery, survival is about as good as for people who have never had covid-19.
- “However, it must in each individual case be weighed against the risks that waiting with surgery itself can entail,” says Malin Sund, professor of surgery at Umeå University and one of the coordinators for the Swedish part of the study.
