The Helsinki unit of the Confederation of Finnish Railways and the Riihimäki Locomotive Drivers’ Association announced that their drivers would not come to work on Thursday, March 18 and Friday, March 19.
VR announced on Wednesday that all local HSL and commuter VR trains will be canceled due to the demonstration.
The cancellations affect HSL’s A, E, I, K, L, P, U and Y trains on VR’s local trains D, G, R, T, Z and M.
Drivers will return to work on Saturday, March 20th.
According to the trade union press release, the demonstration is a protest against VR’s breach of contract and changes in the agreed working conditions.
The Union’s press release also stated that VR had won the tender for the rights to use Helsinki’s HSL commuter train by making a low-price offer.
The locomotive drivers said that after eight months of fruitless negotiations, they will sue VR in various courts, including through a class action lawsuit.
They apologized to the passengers for the inconvenience caused by the protest.
In its press release, VR also regretted the inconvenience caused to passengers by the situation.
