They say this on the way to negotiations on reopening in the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.
– We attach less and less weight to the calculations. We believe that there is evidence that we have been positively surprised by the reality in relation to the forecasts, says chairman of the Danish People’s Party, Kristian Thulesen Dahl, and continues:
– Last time it turned out that there was actually room to open more. The government must accept that uncertainty to a much greater degree.
In February, the Statens Serum Institut calculated that the partial reopening of shops and schools would lead to 870 inpatients in mid-April.
But since then, the number of inpatients has dropped sharply from about 400 to less than 200.
– We must listen to the estimates we have. But we must recognize that these are forecasts. And that those forecasts have not proved to be entirely useful so far.
– And then we must to a greater extent look at what reality looks like when it comes to infected and hospitalized, says chairman of the Liberal Party, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen before the negotiations.
The Conservatives’ Søren Pape Poulsen says that he acknowledges that the calculations are becoming more and more accurate.
– I take these calculations as a bid. Not as something we have to stick to 100 percent. And I allow myself to think that they are political choices to make, he says.
This time, the Statens Serum Institut has recognized, for example, seasonal effects, which has significantly affected the estimates. And several party leaders are acknowledging that.
– The calculations are uncertain. And the authorities and those who sit and count also make that very clear. Conversely, it must be said that they have gotten better and better at it.
– It’s the best we have. So I think we have to give professionalism a lot of weight, says political leader of the Radicals Sofie Carsten Nielsen, while the Unity List’s Mai Villadsen says:
– We have to deal with the best man’s best bid. If it turns out that it looks even better in reality, then of course we must be ready to act on it.
