From Iceland - News magazine RVK # 85: Eruption has begun!

An eruption has begun at Fagradalsfjall, it was long expected that it would be a site of a possible eruption. The small town in Þorlákshöfn was in a state of emergency due to possible gas pollution due to the eruption.

What we now know is that Geldingadalsgos is a fissure eruption that is about 500 to 700 meters long and located just east of Fagradalsfjall on the Reykjanes peninsula. It is about 800 years since a volcano last erupted in Reykjanes and this eruption is not at the moment caused by any immediate danger to people or infrastructure in the area.

Valur Grettisson and Art Bicnick visited the area a few hours after the eruption.
