The Finnish party has announced that it will make a motion of censure against Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson.
Jussi Halla-aho, Chairman of the Finnish Party and Leader of the Party’s Parliamentary Group, Ville Tavio, the justice minister said on Saturday Anna-Maja Henriksson had misled citizens and called on municipalities to break the law following this spring’s decision to postpone municipal elections.
"By promising until the last minute that elections can be held independently of local epidemics, we believe that the Ministry of Justice and Henriksson have led the parties and the citizens," The Nationalist Party said in its publication Suomen Uutiset on Saturday.
The Finnish party also claimed that Henriksson and the ministry had failed in their duty to take steps to hold the elections in a timely and safe manner.
On Friday, Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs unanimously approved the postponement of municipal elections from 18 April to 13 June.
The committee noted that elections should be postponed in order to protect people’s lives and health, but most importantly, to safeguard the right of every citizen to vote.
