From Iceland - Volcanic area closed by weather and petrol

Police closed the eruption site in Geldingadalur last night, after weather conditions worsened and the amount of particulate matter in the air rose in the area.

There is little visibility on site today according to mbl.is, with strong winds, snow and conditions below zero that make hiking difficult.

Although conditions at the eruption sites may ease later today, vedur.is have issued a weather warning for the area starting tomorrow afternoon.

The whole of the South can expect a strong gale from 20 to 28 meters per second from Saturday afternoon until midnight. Other areas can expect strong winds from 13 to 25 meters per second until Friday and until Sunday morning, where snow blows play a major role in the northeast. It is not recommended to travel around this area at the weekend.
