– We think it is wise to play ambitiously from the Danish side. Danish companies are strong in both energy efficiency and renewable energy and are ready to contribute. So it is absolutely right to lay out ambitiously.
– It has a greater effect on the climate when more people go the same way. In addition, other countries will to a greater extent need the solutions developed in Denmark, says climate manager Anne Højer Simonsen from Danish Industry.
She refers to wind turbines and energy efficiency in many different forms, which are produced in Denmark, and which are expected to be further in demand if the requirements in the field of energy are tightened in the EU.
This summer, Denmark will meet with the rest of the EU to negotiate new goals for the energy sector.
Here, according to Berlingske, the government will try to gather a majority for renewable energy to make up 45 percent of the EU’s total energy consumption by 2030.
At the same time, the government believes that energy efficiency should be increased to 40 percent. Energy efficiency is measured by how good the EU countries are at reducing their energy consumption.
At Synergi, Chairman of the Board Bendt Bendtsen points out that it is important to reduce energy waste if the EU’s climate goals are to be achieved.
– I think it is a really good green signal from the government.
– If we are to meet the Danish and European climate goals, we will not be able to avoid cutting energy waste, says Bendt Bendtsen.
Last December, EU countries agreed that the EU should reduce total greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent by 2030.
It is against this background that a package of new legislation and new goals in the field of climate and energy in the EU must be drawn up.
– Danish companies are among the world’s best for energy efficiency.
– An ambitious goal of cutting 40 percent of energy consumption is not just good for the climate. It will also mean up to 100 billion kroner extra in exports and 15,000 jobs distributed across Denmark, says Bendt Bendtsen.
He refers to the results of an analysis made by EA Energy Analysis for Synergy. EA Energy Analysis has just calculated the possible effects of the government’s proposals in the energy field.
– There are nothing less than fantastic prospects in the announcement from the government, says Bendt Bendtsen, who is a former minister, member of parliament and member of the European Parliament for the Conservatives.
However, he acknowledges that it may be difficult to get the whole EU involved in the idea.
– I know it’s going to be hard. I have personal experience with that.
“There will be countries like Cyprus, Malta and Romania where we know that energy consumption is rising, and they will probably stand on their own two feet,” he says.
