With 36 percent of the vote, the Inuit Ataqatigiit (IA) stands to become Greenland’s largest party in the election to the Greenlandic parliament, Inatsisartut, on 6 April. This is an increase of 10 percentage points since the last survey.
It shows an opinion poll according to the Greenlandic media Sermitsiaq. AG.
IA thus stands to take the chairmanship of the Naalakkersuisut from Siumut, which has been in power almost uninterruptedly since 1979.
Siumut has fallen in the polls after the party has been plagued by internal strife. In the latest poll, the party stood to get 27.3 percent of the vote, but Friday night’s poll predicts only 23.2 percent for the ruling party.
Kim Nielsen, who sits as national chairman of Siumut, was ousted in November as chairman of his own party, but has been sitting as national chairman ever since.
