Representative of the Finns Sebastian Tynkkynen has been charged for the third time with ethnic agitation after being charged in the Oulu District Court at the end of March.
Tynkkysen has two previous convictions for similar crimes. He was convicted of hate speech in 2017 and fined $ 4,000 in October 2019 for anti-Islamic texts and images posted on Facebook in 2016.
Speaking to the BTI news agency about the latest indictment, Tynkkynen denied committing any crime. He added that the prosecution is linked to his municipal election campaign, in which he has brought out messages that citizens are concerned about the negative side effects of immigration.
"I will explain why presenting citizens’ messages is in no way a violation, but above all politicians should represent citizens and bring their voices to political decision-making," Tynkkynen told STT and added that he sees the allegations as an attack on freedom of speech.
"If the judiciary considers the implementation of an immigration-critical policy to be illegal, it can be said that the position of the judiciary is very weak. The possibilities of one party to take practical action are missing," Tynkkynen said.
