- In New Zealand, hundreds of people have been convicted of violating the country’s pandemic law. An unusually large number of those convicted belong to the country’s indigenous Maori.
- Since the law was introduced, nearly 7,600 violations have been reported and more than 450 people have been convicted of violating pandemic restrictions.
- The majority of those accused and convicted belong to the indigenous Maori population, which further sparked discussion in the country about widespread racism in the police and judiciary, which for many years has been accused of racist discrimination against Maori.
