- “Normally, at this time of year, we have at most children with RS virus. Then the ward is usually filled with children with RS. And that is certainly not the case this year,” says Percy Nilsson Wimar chief physician in pediatrics at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö .
- They usually care for around 100 RS-sick children every winter season. This year, no child has needed care. The reduction is clear throughout Sweden. A total of 44 cases, four of which were found in Skåne this year, compared with more than 7,000 in the 2018-2019 season.
- The reduction in the virus was immediately apparent when the restrictions on covid-19 came into force a year ago. But Percy Nilsson Wimar believes that the virus will return when we start living as usual.
