The Finnish cultural and entertainment industry is struggling to survive a pandemic

The Finnish cultural and entertainment industry is struggling to survive a pandemic

Cultural activities and events are mainly concentrated in the Uusimaa region, which accounts for about half of the industrial workforce and 70 percent of the turnover.

The latest figures from the Uusimaa Provincial Council show that the effects of the coronavirus crisis have continued to affect the arts and recreation industry this year, leaving no room for improvement.

In February, the total compensation received by employees in the sector decreased by almost 12 per cent year-on-year in Uusimaa and 11 per cent elsewhere in Finland. There is also an acute shortage of labor opportunities as events are canceled.

The situation is even more severe in Uusimaa’s restaurant and restaurant industries, where employees received 16.6 per cent less total bonuses this year than in the previous year.
