OG, G2 Esports and Dignitas swept to victory on Tuesday the first day of the 16th round of the BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown 2021.
On the first day of the six-day competition, OG defeated Astralis, G2 released Endpoint and Dignitas sent Team Liquid – all with 2-0 points.
Winsby OG and G2 fielded them for a Friday match in the eighth round, while Dignitas is waiting for the winner of Wednesday’s 16th match between Team Spirit and Extra Salt.
The 16-team elimination tournament runs from Tuesday to Sunday, with the winner taking home $ 30,000 of the $ 162,500 prize pool.
All matches are best-of-three, with the two best finishers advancing to the spring final.
OG jumped to an 8-2 lead against Astralis before winning his opening map 16-7 on Inferno. It looked more of the same on Dust II when OG led 5-1 early, but a 10-2 Astralis run turned the scoreboard around. During 11-7, OG fought back and eventually won 19-17 in overtime for the triumph of the match.
Valdemar “chose” Bjoslash; rn Vangsaring; of Denmark carried the burden for the winners, registering a match-high 48 deaths and plus-22 death / death difference. Astralis was led by Emil “Magisk” Reif, who topped his all-Danish squad with 38 kills and a plus-3 K / D ratio.
G2 advanced via swipe, but was forced to endure tough comeback bids on every map. Starting from Inferno, G2 ran to leads of 5-1 and 13-6 and then saw the lead 15-11 tuned to 15-14 before scoring the point in a 16-14 nail bit. G2 started with 5-0 and 7-3 leads on Dust II, only to see Endpoint rip off five straight points. But G2 responded with their own five-point run and eventually made a 16-11 victory.
G2’s Nemanja “huNter” Kovac from Bosnia and Herzegovina took match-high honors with 49 kills, while compatriot and cousin Nikola “NiKo” Kovac led all players with a plus-17 K / D differentiation. The UK’s Kia “Surreal” Man ranked Endpoint with 40 kills and an even K / D difference.
Dignitas scored the first eight points of the match when she built an insurmountable 14-1 edge in the opening with a 16-5 route on Nuke. After building an early 4-0 lead at Vertigo, Dignitas saw Liquid storm back on a 7-1 score before pushing back on the road to a 16-13 victory to take the match.
Dignitas was run in victory by Sweden’s duo Ludvig “HEAP” Alonso (47 kills, plus-19 K / D differential) and Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson (47 kills, plus-18). American Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski and Brazilian Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo had 31 killed each for Liquid.
