It was on Tuesday 16 March that bottles of flammable liquid were thrown at the covid-19 test center on Energivej. The fire went out without igniting anything and no persons were present.
– Copenhagen West Region Police have since investigated the incident as arson, and on Wednesday morning the two men were arrested in their home in Rødovre, the police write in a press release.
It was the test center staff who discovered shards of glass and soot on the ground. They called the police, who were able to establish that firebombs – so-called Molotov cocktails – had been thrown at the center.
The second case of arson is an attack on a gable in Nørrekær and on the roadway at Roskildevej. Here, too, bottles of flammable liquid were thrown away.
The fire went out by itself, and no one was injured in this episode either.
The attack on the test center in Ballerup led the National Police to tighten supervision of test and vaccination centers throughout the country.
Immediately after the attack on March 16, a 52-year-old man from Copenhagen was arrested and charged. The charges against him have so far been upheld, police said.
The court in Glostrup decided on Wednesday that the two men, aged 49 and 51, will remain behind bars until 12 May. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
Arson is a serious crime, and they are charged under a provision in the Penal Code with the possibility of up to six years in prison, says prosecutor Søren Halse, the prosecution at Copenhagen West Region Police, in the press release.
