Over the weekend, you will be able to visit the eruption site from 12:00 to 21:00.
In the coming days, anyone interested in visiting the eruption site will be able to set off on the route at 12:00. The eruption site will be monitored by police and rescue teams from 12:00 p.m. to midnight, but the area will be closed at 11:00 p.m. 21:00 and is to be evacuated by 23:00.
According to the weather forecast, the wind will be blowing north-east today and the gas pollution will spread over the capital. Wind strength will be around 13-18 m / s.
Police say there will be no lifeguards near the lava field from midnight to noon to measure gas pollution or respond to accidents.
“The eruption area is dangerous, not least because of poor air quality. Walking to the eruption site has repeatedly proved to be difficult for people.
The police may block all traffic to the eruption sites without prior notice. The danger zone at the eruption sites is marked on the map, which can be accessed on the Facebook page of the police and on the website of the Icelandic Meteorological Office vedur.is.
This eruption area is not intended for young children, they are more vulnerable and closer to the ground than the elderly and therefore more exposed to harmful gases. Everyone going on a hike should make sure that they have appropriate clothing and footwear. “
