But the concrete initiatives are too vague, the criticism has sounded from the support parties, when Climate Minister Dan Jørgensen (S) has repeatedly talked about the so-called hockey stick.
It is the picture that the government believes that Denmark must wait with the huge CO2 reductions until we approach 2030, because new technology is expected to make the effort cheaper by then. After which the CO2 reductions will skyrocket – like the magazine on a hockey stick – up to 2030.
Prior to the climate summit on Thursday and Friday, to which she has been invited by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, however, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) is ready to swing the climate flag high on behalf of Denmark.
– Denmark is among the leading countries in the world in the climate field. This applies to both the ambitions – and thanks to the parliamentary parties for that – and this also applies to the solutions, she says.
– It is a special situation that the world looks to us for solutions, while the government gets criticism here at home.
– We are fantastically good at the climate area. That does not mean we should not do more. We will achieve this in the agricultural negotiations that will begin shortly, says Mette Frederiksen.
Denmark is one of six EU countries that Joe Biden has invited to the climate summit, which takes place virtually.
A total of 40 leaders from around the world have been invited, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Among other things, Mette Frederiksen will talk about energy issues during the meeting:
– There is no doubt that the United States is among the largest emitters. Biden has chosen to invite other of the world’s great emitters and saw some of us smaller countries.
– Denmark is specially invited to the part of the meeting that is about innovation. The Danish companies have the answers that both Denmark and the rest of the world demand, she says.
