The Liberal Party – and a united blue bloc – supports a citizens’ proposal to initiate a federal court case against Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) “now”. This leads to great surprise and thunder from the Social Democrats in the Folketing Hall.
Group chairman Karsten Lauritzen (V) emphasizes that the proposal is not legally binding and that he does not expect it to lead to a federal court now.
– There is not much text that says (in the citizens’ proposal ed.). The citizens’ proposal received quick support. And I think it did, because a lot of people were affected by the decision, says Karsten Lauritzen in the hall and continues:
– The Liberal Party can support the citizens’ proposal as it stands. It is not legally binding and a commission of inquiry has been set up. So it will probably not be adopted. But we owe it to ourselves to show that we take this very seriously.
The citizen proposal sounds very concise:
– Mette Frederiksen for a national court case Now. Due to there are many misleading conditions that have taken place, with regard to the defense, police and emergency services, as well as hauliers and mink breeders.
The Liberal Party’s announcement got a number of Social Democratic rapporteurs out of their seats. The Liberal Party has in fact supported the commission of inquiry that is to investigate the process.
Therefore, several Social Democrats in the House believe that it is nonsense that the Liberal Party supports a speedy initiation of a federal court case, partly on the grounds that it is not expected that there will be a majority for the proposal.
– Is it a responsible party that wants to scrap everything that has been agreed upon, and then set up a federal court now ?, asks the Social Democrats’ Anders Kronborg, who is animal welfare and food rapporteur.
Legal spokesman for the same party Jeppe Bruus says:
– I am speechless that the Liberal Party votes in favor of the resolution. So the Left will vote in favor because it is not binding? But if it is adopted, then it is quite binding?
Group chairman of the Social Democrats Leif Lahn calls it nonsense that the Liberal Party votes to initiate a federal court case, without the process being thoroughly investigated.
Karsten Lauritzen answers:
– I do not think it’s nonsense. It is after careful consideration that we have decided to support this proposal, he says, adding:
– We have not promised to protect the Prime Minister. We will pursue this case to the bitter end.
The Danish People’s Party, the Conservatives, the Liberal Alliance and the New Citizens’ Party also support the bill.
The Conservatives’ constitutional rapporteur, Mai Mercado, says it will be strange for the party to vote against when “one is convinced that a crime has taken place”.
The Radicals express disappointment that the Liberal Party supports the proposal, as it is believed that the party should await the commission of inquiry and that the process will be thoroughly investigated. And says that you should not vote according to whether you expect a majority for or against a proposal, but according to whether you really want the proposal implemented.
SF and the Unity List have the same position. With the votes of the Social Democrats, this means that there is a majority against the citizens’ proposal, which, however, still needs to be re-examined.
